
Five Tar Heel Swimmers & Divers Named All-ACC Academic

Duncan is joined on team by four women, including Caroline Baldwin.
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Five members of the University of North Carolina swimming and diving teams have earned All-ACC Academic honors, as announced Thursday by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Those receiving the honor, which takes into account both academic and athletic performance, are Maddie Baker, Caroline Baldwin, Caroline Hauder and Maddie Smith from the women's team and Greg Duncan from the men's team.

Baker is a freshman from Anderson, S.C., and has not yet declared a major. Â She was named ACC Swimmer of the Week after a stellar performance at the Janis Hope Dowd Nike Invitational in early February 2018.

Baldwin is a senior from Westfield, N.J., and is majoring in exercise and sport science with a concentration in sport administration. A two-time team captain, she earned All-America honors this year in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events and finished second in three events at the ACC Championships.

Hauder is a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., and has not yet declared a major. In her first season as a Tar Heel, she qualified for NCAA Championships and set school record in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.

Smith is a freshman from Lake Forest, Ill., and is majoring in statistics and analytics. She swam on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished 10th at the NCAA Championships and earned honorable mention All-America honors.

Duncan is a freshman from Oakton, Va., and is majoring in environmental science. He was selected as the ACC Male Diver of the Year and is the first Tar Heel to earn the honor since 1958. Duncan was the 2018 ACC champion in one-meter and three-meter diving and was named Most Valuable Diver at the conference meet, the first Tar Heel to win that award since 2004. Â He finished 11th in three-meter diving at NCAA Championships to earn honorable mention All-America honors.

To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a minimum 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.

NCAA champions Mallory Comerford of Louisville and Anton Ipsen of NC State were honored as ACC Scholar Athletes of the Year.
