Ramos And Sherman Earn Academic Honors
April 19, 2018 | Wrestling, Academics
Two North Carolina student-athletes have earned spots on the 2018 All-ACC Academic Wrestling Team, as announced Thursday by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Senior Ethan Ramos and freshman Zach Sherman received the honor, which takes both athletic and academic performance into consideration.
Ramos, from Hawthorne, N.J., is majoring in exercise and sport science. As a senior in 2018, he won the ACC Championship at 174 and was the No. 10 seed at NCAA Championships. He qualified for NCAA Championships all four years of his career and finished with two ACC titles, winning in 2016 in addition to this year.
Sherman, in his first year as a Tar Heel, qualified for NCAA Championships at 133. He was a starter all year and placed fifth at ACC Championships to earn an automatic NCAA bid. He is from Islamorada, Fla., and has not yet declared a major.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a minimum 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Ramos is one of six team members to have earned All-America honors during his career. He was All-America as a freshman in 2015. He's one of four team members to have captured individual ACC Championships in 2018.
NC State's Michael Macchiavello was named the ACC Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
