Tar Heels Finish As Undefeated Champions Of U.S. Soccer Spring Program

The North Carolina Tar Heels capped off an undefeated spring season with a 1-0 defeat of rival Duke on Saturday, April 21, to be named champions of the inaugural U.S. Soccer Spring College Program. A Jeremy Kelly goal midway through the second half proved to be the difference as the stingy Tar Heel defense pitched its third shutout in five games. Overall, the Tar Heels finished 5-0 on the spring season and outscored its opponents 13-2.
After a tough back and forth first half, Kelly broke the deadlock with the game-winning goal off an assist from Mauricio Pineda while James Pyle and the Carolina defense secured another shutout.
