UNC No. 2, Jones Up To No. 7 In Latest Tennis Rankings

For the first time since January, the North Carolina women's tennis team is not the No. 1 ranked team in the nation according to the Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. The Tar Heels check in No. 2 this week after SEC Champion Vanderbilt took over the top spot.
Sophomore Makenna Jones, who was named ACC Player of the Week on Tuesday, moved up four places to No. 7 in the national singles rankings this week. The Greenville, South Carolina, native completed her league season a perfect 14-0 against the Atlantic Coast Conference. Included in those victories was an impressive three-set masterpiece last Friday against then fourth-ranked Samantha Harris of Duke.
Tar Heel freshman Alle Sanford was 1-1 last week and checks in at No. 27 in singles. Sophomore Sara Daavettila is at No. 41, sophomore Alexa Graham is No. 92 and junior Jessie Aney is No. 96.
In doubles, Aney and Graham slip two places to No. 3 this week, and the duo of Daavettila and Sanford move up one spot to No. 22.
Carolina, the No. 3 seed in the ACC Championship, will begin defense of their back-to-back titles, on Friday in the quarterfinals at 11:30 a.m. from the Cary Tennis Center. The Tar Heels will either face sixth seed Virginia or the winner between 11th seed Wake Forest and 14th seed Notre Dame.
