Carolina Welcomes Virginia Tech for ACC Coastal Series

CHAPEL HILL – After going 7-3 in a 10-game road trip, Carolina welcomes Virginia Tech to Anderson Stadium for a three-game series. Seeking their fourth ACC series win, the Tar Heels (19-19, 8-4 ACC) have league series wins over Duke, Notre Dame and Virginia to sit second in the Coastal division.

Schedule Update
Due to inclement weather, the Tar Heels and Hokies will play a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Friday with the second game to follow approximately 30 minutes later. Sunday's game is at 1 p.m. as scheduled. All three games will be available on the ACC Network Extra and UNCLiveStats.com.

Weekend Promotions
Throughout the weekend, the Tar Heels will celebrate senior Taylor Wike's accomplishments. In addition, Friday is fan appreciation night at Anderson Stadium. Fans can enter a raffle at the marketing table to win prizes. Sunday is pancreatic cancer awareness day. There will also be a Carolina headband giveaway Sunday.

As the calendar turns to April, the Tar Heels went 13-7 through March, going 8-2 on the road despite a trio of recent losses. Carolina sits second in the ACC Coastal division with series wins over Notre Dame and Virginia, and a sweep over Duke. Most recently, the Tar Heels came home off a 10-game road trip where they went 7-3 and faced UNCG at home, battling through 10 innings but fell short, 4-3 on Wednesday. Matching her season-best six-game hitting streak, Kiani Ramsey leads the team with a .370 average after logging two hits against both UNCW and UNCG. With four multi-hit games last week, Taylor Wike tops the team leaderboards in nearly every offensive category: doubles (6), home runs (7), RBI (27), slugging percentage (.632), walks (20) and on-base percentage (.468). Leah Murray follows closely behind with .356 average, leading the team in runs scored (26) and stolen bases (27). With a 17-6 record, Brittany Pickett has been dominant in the circle, tossing 197.1 of Carolina's 261.1 innings pitched, going 11-2 in March alone.

About Virginia Tech
Coming off a midweek sweep of Charlotte, Virginia Tech (15-20, 2-9 ACC) travels to Carolina for a three game series after winning four of their past six. The Hokies own ACC wins over Syracuse and Notre Dame. Emma Strouth leads the team with a .305 average while Carrie Eberle anchors the pitching staff with a 1.73 ERA.

About the Series
Carolina leads the all-time series, 27-15. However, Virginia Teach came out on top in the most recent meeting, 13-4 in five innings on March 19, 2017. The Tar Heels and Hokies first met on March 3, 1996 with UNC coming out on top, 18-1 in five innings in Conway, South Carolina. Carolina leads the conference series, 23-11, with eight nonconference meetings in the history. The Tar Heels won the past seven out of eight and the past three conference series in Chapel Hill, dating back to the 2007 season when VT won the doubleheader.
