1938— Andy Bershak: Football, Men’s Basketball (Clairton, Pennsylvania)
A great two-way end from 1935 to 1937 who was a consensus All-America in 1937. He was All-Southern Conference in 1936 and 1937. His number 59 was retired. Bershak was a brilliant defender and his team’s top receiver. He also was a starter on the basketball team and an honor student. He led the basketball team in scoring in 1935-36 and 1937-38. Selected by the Detriot Lions in the fifth round of the 1938 NFL Draft. Selected to the Order of the Golden Fleece and served as president of the Carolina Athletic Association. Died of Bright’s disease in 1943 in his hometown of Clairton, Pennsylvania at the age of 28.
