1980— Bonny Brown: Women's Swimming (Murphy, N.C.)
The first female athlete to win the Patterson Medal. She won the AIAW national title in the 100-individual medley in 1977 and was a 25-time first-team All-America in such events as the 50, 100 and 200 free, 100 and 200 IM, 200-medley relay, 200-free relay, 400-free relay, 400-medley relay and 800-free relay from 1977-1980. In 1975, Brown won a gold medal for the United States at the Pan American Games. A year later, she set the American record in the 100- meter freestyle.
