1998— Cindy Werley: Field Hockey (Emmaus, Pa.)
One of two UNC field hockey players (with Erin Matson) to win multiple National Player-of-the-Year honors and one of six to earn first-team All-America honors at least three times.
Led the Tar Heels to NCAA championships in 1996 and 1997 and three ACC championships. The first field hockey player to win the Patterson Medal.
Won the Honda Award as NPOY in 1996 and 1997, earned All-ACC honors in 1994, 1996 and 1997 (red-shirted in 1995 to train with the U.S. National Team for the 1996 Olympics), was a three-time ACC Tournament MVP and earned All-NCAA and All-ACC Tournament honors in 1994, 1996 and 1997.
Scored 84 goals and had 44 assists for 212 points. Is second behind Matson in UNC career goals and points. Still holds UNC single-season records set in 1997 with 36 goals and 87 points.
Played for the U.S. Senior National Team from 1994-2000. Won a gold medal in the 1995 Pan Am Games and played in the 1996 Olympics.
