A star quarterback from 1964 to 1966 and the 1965 ACC Player of the Year under head coach Jim Hickey. Talbott led the league in total offense and scoring that season. Set the single-game UNC total offense record with 318 yards against Georgia. ACC Athlete of the Year and Sporting News’ baseball first-team All-America in 1966. First-team All-ACC first baseman in 1965 and 1966 and second team in 1967. Most Valuable Player of the 1966 East-West Shrine Game (football). Batted .357 in his career, including .362 (with 26 extra-base hits) in 1965, .395 in 1966 and .305 in 1967. Led the Tar Heels to an ACC title and College World Series appearance in 1966.
Selected in both the MLB and NFL Drafts – by Baltimore in 1966 in the baseball draft and by San Francisco in the 1967 NFL Draft. Was the first Tar Heel baseball player drafted.
