1937— Dick Buck: Football (Brackenridge, Pa.)
Buck helped UNC go 15-3-1 in the 1935 and 1936 seasons, playing as a tight end and serving as captain of the 1936 team. He was deemed the hero of the 1934 game vs. Duke for catching the only Tar Heel score in the victory. Buck was named All-Southern Conference following the 1934 and 1935 seasons and selected All-State in 1935. He was named an Honorable Mention AP All-America in 1936.
The Chicago Cardinal Football Club pursued Buck to join the team for the 1937 season. However, following graduation, he began a 10-year career as a geologist with Schlumberger. Following a series of moves, including a stint in South America, Buck was transferred to Oklahoma, where he would become the founder and owner of Buck Drilling Company. He lived in Oklahoma City with his wife Irene (Paul) and six children until his death in 1971.
