Drafted by the Boston Red Sox after graduation, he caught for minor league teams in 1939-40 in Rocky Mount, Canton, Ohio and Centerville, Ohio. He served as a US Navy Supply Officer in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was a CPA in Wilmington.
