1960— Jack Cummings: Football, Men’s Lacrosse (Lower Merion, Pa.)
Two-time All-ACC quarterback, earning first-team honors in 1958 and second team in 1959. Also played defensive back. Played for UNC from 1957-59 and completed 48% of his passes and threw 19 touchdown passes. In 1958 he set ACC records with 1,139 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes. He was seventh in the nation in total offense and 10th in passing. He was named honorable-mention All-America by the Associated Press and UNC’s MVP. Co-captain in 1959, the same year he won the UNC Football team’s E. Carrington Smith Award as the most valuable player on offense. In 2008 the USA Today College Football Encyclopedia named him one of the top 55 Tar Heel players in the previous 55 years. Also played lacrosse for the Tar Heels. Philadelphia Eagles selected him in the fourth round of the 1960 NFL Draft.
