2002— Katie Hathaway: Women's Swimming (Matthews, N.C.)
Named one of the 50 greatest women’s swimmers in Atlantic Coast Conference history, Hathaway earned 24 All-America honors in the pool and Academic All-America honors in the classroom.
The Matthews, N.C., native won five individual ACC events and was on seven relays that won conference titles. In her four years, the Tar Heels won three ACC championships and finished in the Top 20 at the NCAA Championships on all four occasions.
A two-time captain, Hathaway set UNC records in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke and was the ACC record holder in the 200 breaststroke. She earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championships in 11 of the 12 individual events in which she qualified and added 13 All-America honors on relays. She was Carolina’s Most Valuable Swimmer in 1999-2000 and 2001-02 and the Most Outstanding Swimmer in 1998-99 and 2000-01.
Hathaway was twice named to the Academic All-America team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America and was a District Academic All-America by CoSIDA.
