Women's Golf In Ninth At Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. - North Carolina's women's golf team is in 9th place after carding a first round team score of 313 at the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, SC. The Tar Heels finish the first round two shots behind 8th place South Carolina and 18 shots back of tournament leader Wake Forest University. The Deacons finished off the afternoon shooting a team score of 295, the only team in the tournament to shoot a first round under 300. They hold an 11 shot lead over Texas, Auburn and Furman, who are tied for second place. TCU rounds out the top five following the first day.
In individual competition, the Tar Heels were led by Marcy Newton who finished the day carding a four-over 76. She shot a 37 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine and is currently tied with three others for 14th place. Heather Angell finds herself tied for 26th after shooting a first round score of 78. Sophomore Beth Lever finished off her afternoon with a 79. Abby Spector and Britta Olson shot an 80 and 83 respectively.
The tournament leader of Maria Beautell from Wake Forest who shot a 35 on the front and back nine to finish with a 2-under 70. She currently holds a one-stroke lead over Furman's Jennifer Perri who carded a 71. Celeste Troche from Auburn and Shauna Estes from Georgia are two back of Beautell after finishing the first round at even par. Kristin Dufour >from Texas and Nuria Clau from Wake Forest are currently tied for fifth after carding a 73.
The tournament is being held at the Furman Golf Course which is a par 72 course comprised of 5, 917 yards.
