1987 -- Baseball Team Wins 11th in a Row
North Carolina pounded a trio of Wake Forest pitchers for 14 hits and defeated the Deacons, 16-3, at Boshamer Stadium for UNCs 11th consecutive victory.
The Tar Heels ran their record to 16-6 and 4-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Wake Forest fell to 13-15 and 1-3 in the league.
Devy Bell and Darin Campbell were the hitting stars for Carolina. Bell was three-for-five, including his seventh home run of the spring. He scored four runs and drove home two. Campbell was two-for-five with a double and four RBIs.
Campbell capped a four-run second inning with a two-run double. After Bell singled and stole second in the third, Chris DeFranco doubled him home to give Carolina an early 5-0 lead.
Bell had a leadoff homer in the fifth and one out later, DeFranco followed with his second home run of the year.
Carolina added three runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth.
Michael Hoog worked six and two-thirds innings to run his record to 4-0. Jim Dougherty pitched two and a third innings of hitless relief.
