CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 20th-ranked Florida State women's tennis team bounced back from a 9-0 loss to #2 Duke on Friday by edging #27 North Carolina 6-3 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The match was tied 3-3 after singles and the Seminoles went on to win the match by sweeping all three doubles matches.
With the victory, FSU improves to 18-5 on the season and 4-2 in the ACC with the only conference losses to #2 Duke and #17 Wake Forest. Carolina dropped its second straight match, slipping to 11-6 on the year overall and 2-3 in the ACC. All three of the Tar Heels' league losses have come against foes ranked in the Top 20 nationally.
Carolina's wins were earned by senior Sarah Hawkins at #3 singles, junior Cena Hackler at #4 singles and junior Jeni Burnette at #6 singles.
The Tar Heels' next match will be at home on Monday afternoon when Carolina plays host to Michigan at 5 p.m.
