NORCROSS, GA.-The regular season ended Saturday afternoon for the 28th-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team when it fell to fourth-ranked Duke 5-0 in the semifinals of the 1999 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the Racquet Club of the South.
Duke advanced to the final where it plays Wake Forest Sunday at 12 noon.
Hopefully for North Carolina it will not be the end of the season however. UNC is seeking its first ever bid to the NCAA Tournament in women's tennis and with a 56-team field, the Tar Heels appear to have a good shot to make the tourney. UNC finishes the regular season 15-8. Duke improved to 22-3.
The Blue Devils made quick work of the Tar Heels, winning five singles matches in straight sets on Saturday. Wake Forest advanced to the finals by winning all three doubles matches to rally past Florida State 5-4.
