Wrestlers Top ACC Rival Duke, 35-9

DURHAM, N.C. - Despite a strong start in winning two of the first three weight classes, the Duke wrestling team couldn't keep up with ACC rival North Carolina on Tuesday evening. The Tar Heels recorded wins in the last four matches, including three pins, to hand the Blue Devils a 35-9 setback. With the loss, Duke drops to 5-8, 0-2 in the ACC. North Carolina improves to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the conference. Duke's wins came at 157, 165, and 197. Sophomore Deuce Harris secured a 4-3 win at 157 for the Blue Devils over Pat Cadwallader, while Blue Devil senior Matt Mapes earned a 5-1 decision against Dan Calhoun. Duke freshman Daegan Smith added a tough 7-3 victory at 197 against Ty Roofner of North Carolina.
North Carolina's Chuckie Connor collected a pin in just :18 seconds at 125. Also earning pins for the Tar Heels were Brad Byers at 133, Josh Cowley at 141, and John Mark Bentley at 149.
