Staff Coaches
Since the beginning of our camps, the single most important factor has been hiring outstanding coaches. In addition to the Tar Heel coaching staff and players, the camp staff will consist of collegiate players, NCAA, NAIA, junior college and high school coaches, and current and former Women's Pro Softball League players. The camper to counselor ratio will be 8-to-1, allowing each camper to receive individual attention as well as small group instruction. Following is a partial list of coaches who have committed to the Carolina softball camps:

Tar Heel Day Camp (June 14-17)
This camp is designed for beginner levels. Emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals of the fastpitch game-hitting, bunting, baserunning, position play and game competition. Campers will be divided by age and skill level to provide the appropriate learning environment. This camp is geared for young players with limited experience who are entering grades 5-9.
Tuition is $200 for the four-day camp and also includes a Nike softball camp t-shirt. Full payment is due with application ($50 non-refundable). Fee does not include lunch.
Tar Heel Pitching and Catching School (June 17-20)
Pitchers: UNC pitching coach Beverly Smith and a staff of experienced pitching coaches will be on hand to instruct participants of all skill levels. The fundamental mechanics of pitching, increasing velocity, trouble-shooting, throwing specific pitches and the mental aspects of the game will be emphasized. Video analysis is also available.
Catchers: Coach Tanya Spishak and an experienced catching staff will head the Tar Heel Catching School. The fundamentals of the catching stance, throwing, blocking, receiving throws, blocking the plate, picking off runners and communicating with the infield will be stressed.
Pitchers and catchers will also attend sessions on strength training and academics. Pitchers and catchers will work separately during morning and afternoon sessions, but will work together during some selected evening sessions.
The fee for the four-day camp is $380 and includes tuition, housing, full dining and a Nike softball camp t-shirt. (Commuter tuition is $280.)
**Optional outing: Women's Pro Softball League game, Georgia Pride vs. Durham Dragons. Cost is $4 for ticket and transportation to and from the game.
Carolina All Skills Camp (July 11-14)
UNC coach Donna Papa and a staff of experienced college and high school coaches will be on hand to instruct participants of all skill levels. Emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals of the game-hitting, bunting, pitching, catching, infield and outfield play, baserunning and game competition. Included in the sessions will be demonstrations, drills, practice sessions and game competition. Academics and strength training sessions are also offered. The 8:1 camper-to-staff ratio allows for individualized instruction, which is geared to all skill levels and all positions for ages 12 to 18.
The fee for the four-day (nine session) camp is $365, which includes tuition, housing, full dining and a Nike softball camp t-shirt. (Commuter tuition is $265. Team tuition, based on four or more players from one team, is $355)
Tar Heel Pitcher and Catcher Specialty Camp
This camp is an intense training environment for pitchers and catchers. Pitchers will concentrate on the fundamentals of the windmill motion, increasing velocity, troubleshooting, and the mental aspects of the game. Catchers will receive instruction on the fundamentals of catching, including blocking, throwing, framing, receiving pitches, calling pitches, setting up batters, and much more.
Tuition is $200 for the three-day (five session) camp, which is geared to pitchers and catchers of all skill levels, ages 12 to 18. The fee includes tuition, housing, full dining and a Nike softball camp t-shirt. (Commuter tuition is $100.)
