Here's some of what was said on today's Carolina Daily Show.
Woody: Coach, first about the Bowl Championship Series, how much do you think it dilutes or distracts from the other 21 postseason games that teams want to try to get into?
Torbush: I don't think a great deal. It does to a degree because it gives fans something to hang their hat on. It gives the top three or four teams in the country something to really be excited to play for, but the bowl games definitely have a place in college football. I've said it before, even if we had a playoff with the top eight teams in the country, I'd still believe that the other bowl games would still be very attractive to the public.
Woody: Coach do you ever think college football will get around to establishing a playoff format?
Torbush: I would like to see that. There's no doubt in my mind if Division I-AA, Division II, Division III and NAIA can have playoffs, academics at those schools are every bit as important as they are to NCAA Division I schools. I look at a team like Texas last year, who had a preseason game, they played in the Big 12 playoff game and then they played in a bowl game. So they played 14 ball games. There's really not much difference in 14 or 15 ball games.
I would like to see a national playoff. I don't know that it will happen, but I think it will somewhere down the road. Where down the road? I don't really know that. I don't want it to take away from the bowl system, but I don't think it will.
