Men's Tennis Assistant Coach Wins Mexican Open Doubles Title

MEXICO CITY - Don Johnson, a volunteer assistant coach for the UNC men's tennis team, won his tenth ATP Tour doubles title this weekend. Johnson, who played tennis at UNC from 1987 to 1990, paired with Byron lack of Zimbabwe to win the Mexican Open in Mexico City.
While at Carolina, Johnson was the MVP of the 1990 ACC Championship and the recipient of the 1990 Region II Arthur Ashe Jr. Sportsmanship Award. Johnson turned professional in 1992.
Said Carolina Head Coach Sam Paul: "We are thrilled for Don and his win. It's tremendous to have someone with his knowledge and experience helping our guys improve their play."
Johnson resides in Chapel Hill with his wife, Krista, who is in medical school at UNC.
