UNC Honors Student-Athletes at Annual All-Sports Dinner

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina honored several of its top student-athletes Monday night at the University's annual all-sports dinner held at the Dean E. Smith Center.
The Tatum Award given by the University for athletic performance and University and community activities was awarded to men's soccer player Michael Bucy, a junior from Raleigh, N.C. Bucy was also one of six student-athletes honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference with the ACC Top Six for Service Award given for community service. The other five winners were Brad Byers, a junior wrestler from Hudson, Ohio, Chris Elmore, a senior baseball player from Virginia Beach, Va., Holly Huff, a junior field hockey player from St. Louis, Mo., Lindsay Stoecker, a senior women's soccer player from Raleigh, N.C., and Brooke Wilson, a junior gymnast from Sumter, S..C.
Stoecker and Elmore were also honored as winners of the Mildred McCaskill Awards given by the University to seniors who represent excellence in athletics, academics and community service. Other recognition went to Jennifer Strasburger, a senior women's swimmer from Mercer Island, Wash., who was named a recipient of the Weaver-James-Corrigan Post-Graduate Scholarship given by the ACC. The ACC Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards demonstrating excellence in academics and athletics were given to Helen Lawler, a senior women's soccer player from Jupiter, Fla., and Matt Crowe, a senior men's fencer from Parma Heights, Ohio.
The athletic department also recognized 27 student-athletes as winners of the 2000 Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Awards. These winners are:
