Former Tar Heels Marion Jones, LaTasha Colander Help Set World Record

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Former Tar Heels Marion Jones and LaTasha Collander made up half of the USA 4x200m relay team that set a world record at the Penn Relays Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa. The USA finished in 1:27.46, breaking the 1:28.15 mark set by former East Germany in 1980. Collander ran the second leg and Jones ran the anchor, Latasha Jenkins and Nanceen Perry made up the rest of the team.
Jones also led the USA to victory in the 4x100m by running the anchor as the team finished in 42.33, breaking the Penn Relays and Franklin Field records.
Former Tar Heel Tisha Waller added another victory as she took the women's high jump with a mark of 6-2 3/4 and Blake Russell and Joan Nesbit finished first (15:21.37) and second (15:47.86), respectively in the 5000m. Also, for the women, Nicole Gamble took second in the triple jump with a distance of 45-2 1/2.
The men were also represented as Milton Campbell ran the first leg of an American team that took second in the 4x400m in 2:58.71 and Curtis Johnson ran the opening leg of the 4x100m team that also took second in 38.36.
