CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-Junior rowers Erin Neppel and Dana Peirce finished the 2000 season with honors for their performances on the water and their hard work off of it.
Neppel, from Raleigh, N.C., and Peirce, from Richmond, Va., both have been recognized by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. Neppel earned first-team All-Central Region honors for her rowing performance this spring and Peirce was named to the second team. They also were honored as CRCA National Scholar-Athletes, which requires a grade point average of at least 3.5. Neppel is majoring in exercise physiology and sport science, and Peirce is majoring in biology.
The two were joined on the Scholar-Athlete team by senior Danae Ringelmann, who is from San Francisco and carries a GPA of 3.75 in her American studies major. A total of 96 Division I rowers from across the country earned the academic honor.
Neppel's first-team honor recognizes her as one of the top eight rowers in the region. Earlier in the season, Neppel and Peirce also were recognized as All-Atlantic Coast Conference performers.
