CLEVELAND, OHIO - The University of North Carolina, the inaugural winner (1993-94) of the Division I Sears Directors' Cup, presented by the nation's athletics directors, concluded the fall season in the lead for the 2000-01 race.

The Tar Heels also placed second in field hockey, fifth in men's soccer, 12th in women's cross country and 33rd in women's volleyball. The Sears Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.
