Men's Tennis Continues Success in S.C.

Columbia, S.C. - Carolina's Men's Tennis team continued its successful play Saturday at the USC Fall Invitational. All 10 Carolina squad members are competing in the three day tournament in either the A-1 or B-1 singles flight.
Four Carolina players advanced to the quarterfinals of the A Flight with victories on Saturday morning. However, sophomore Nicholas Monroe fell to top seed Seth Rose (South Carolina) 6-1, 6-2, junior Trystan Meniane lost to #4 seed Angelo Niculescu 6-1, 6-4 and senior Marcio Petrone defeated teammate Daniel Pinchbeck 6-1, 6-4. Petrone will play Niculesco of South Carolina in one semifinal while USC's Rose faces UNC-Greensboro's Tony Mule in the second semifinal.
Sophomore Andy Metzler defeated College of Charleston's Thorben Kolk 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Junior Greg Archer aggravated a wrist injury and was forced to retire against East Carolina's Brad Sullivan 6-2, 4-1. Metzler plays Charleston Southern's Soufien Rouchag in one semifinal Sunday morning.
