Tar Heels Honor Student-Athletes At Spring Banquet

CHAPEL HILL --- Men's soccer forward Michael Bucy garnered four major awards and gymnast Brooke Wilson received two prestigious accolades as the University of North Carolina honored its 28-sport varsity student-athletes at the annual spring banquet Monday evening at the Smith Center.
Bucy received the Atlantic Coast Conference Top Six Award for Service, the Mildred McCaskill Award for excellence in athletics, scholarship, and service to the community, an ACC Scholar-Athlete Award and the Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship.
Wilson received the Jim Tatum Award, which is given to the student-athlete who has performed with distinction in his or her sport and has contributed to the University community through participation in outreach activities.
Other award winners included: Holly Huff (field hockey) and Louis Marchetti (football) received Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarships, Jana Toepel (field hockey) received the Weaver-James-Corrigan Scholarship, Stephanie Jilcott (track and field and cross country) was the women's sports' recipient of the ACC Scholar-Athlete Award, Brooke Schildwachter (lacrosse) was the women's sports' recipient of the Mildred McCaskill Award, and Corey Bell (wrestling), Brad Byers (wrestling), Stefani Dixon (track and field) and Jessica Wilson (women's lacrosse), who joined Bucy and Brooke Wilson as recipients of the ACC Top Six Awards for Service.
Director of Athletics Dick Baddour also presented Scholar-Athlete Awards to representatives of each program. The Athletic Director Scholar-Athlete Awards were presented to: Jason Howell (baseball), Michael Brooker (men's basketball), Leah Sharp (women's basketball), Dash Victor (men's cross country), Kim Timberlake (women's cross country), James Steele (men's fencing), Kimberly Treiber and Kyle Treiber (women's fencing), Holly Huff (field hockey), Louis Marchetti (football), Bob Cherry (men's golf), Heather Angle (women's golf), Brooke Wilson (gymnastics), Austin Garrison (men's lacrosse), Porter Wilkinson (women's lacrosse), Erin Neppel (rowing), Michael Bucy (men's soccer), Julia Marslender (women's soccer), Beth Olen (softball), Dave Slawinski (men's swimming and diving), JoAnn Overton (women's swimming and diving), David Cheatwood (men's tennis), Courtney Zalinski (women's tennis), Jeff Ellis and Jacobe Foster (men's track and field), Ola Sesay (women's track and field), Liz Feldman (volleyball) and Brad Byers (wrestling).
