Several Tar Heels Roll to Finals in Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Six Tar Heels advanced to the singles finals of the St. Mary's Health System Women's Tennis Classic Saturday afternoon at the University of Tennessee. Nine schools sent representatives to the tournament, which will hold its finals Sunday afternoon.
Kate Pinchbeck defeated Amy Trefethen of Kentucky 6-2, 6-2 in flight two, Kristen Koening edged Lauren Rooklidge of Kentucky 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) in flight four, Kendrick Bunn swept Lynsey Fick of Purdue 6-2, 6-2 in flight five, Leigh Bairos defeated Majen Immink of Tennessee 6-3, 6-3 in flight six, Kendall Cline swept Missy Wright of Purdue 6-0, 6-3 in flight seven and Caroline Hill beat Erin Cohn of Tennessee 6-1, 6-1 in flight eight. All will play for their flight championships Sunday.
Aniela Mojzis lost her flight three semifinal match to Mary Kovarik of Furman and will play for third place on Sunday, while Marlene Mejia pulled out of her flight one match Saturday due to injury and will not play in the final round.
The doubles championships took place Saturday with Cline and Bairos defeating Fick and Amy Walgenbach of Purdue 8-1 for the flight three championship. Other UNC teams had high finishes in the doubles tournament. Hill and Koenig finished second in the flight four championship after an 8-5 loss to Shannon Stafford and Danielle Petrisko of Kentucky. Mejia and Mojzis also finished in second place after pulling of the flight two finals because of Mejia's injury. Bunn and Pinchbeck finished in fourth place after losing the third place match to Vilmarie Castellvi and Agnes Wiski of Tennessee.
