perceived as the biggest, the fastest, the quickest, the
most spectacular. His reputation grows, in part, because
he isn't seen up close. Around here, Nick Maddox is the
one who got away, the one North Carolina football fans
hoped they would see striding onto the Kenan Stadium
field today, wearing light blue, when the Tar Heels play
No. 6 Florida State (12:12 p.m., WTVD) in their home

U.S. National Field Hockey team in a Women's World
Cup qualifying tournament outside Paris -- was one she
had looked forward to all year. She was willing to leave
