Bairos Brings Home Women's Tennis Championship From Furman

Four Tar Heels won on the final day of competition at the Furman Fall Classic Sunday, while Leigh Bairos brought home a flight championship.
airos swept Lynn-Yin Tan of South Carolina, 6-2, 6-2 to claim the flight three championship, the lone title for Carolina in Furman. Kate Pinchbeck, Julie Rotondi and Kristin Koenig also won their final round consolation matches. Pinchbeck swept Jennifer Radman of South Carolina, 6-4, 6-1 in flight one, Rotondi beat Cassie Hass of Iowa 6-0, 6-2 in flight one and Koenig came back to beat Natalie The of Furman 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in flight three.
Three Tar Heels lost their final round matches, with Kendall Cline claiming second place after losing the flight six championship match to Anna Savitskaya of Clemson, 6-4, 7-6. Stacy Varnell of Middle Tennessee State squeaked by Caroline Hill 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 in flight five and Mary Kovarik of Furman beat Aniela Mojzis, 7-6 (5), 7-5 in flight two, both consolation matches.
The Tar Heels will next see action Oct. 9 in Pacific Palisades, Calif. at the Riviera All-American Championships.
