Carolina Wrestlers Win Two Saturday

The UNC wrestling team won two matches Saturday defeating Campbell 43-3 in Carmichael Auditorium and UNC Greensboro 35-0 at Fleming Gym in Greensboro. With the wins the Tar Heels improve to 8-2, 1-0 in the ACC.
Four Tar Heels scored pinfalls against Campbell. Matt Kenny (Hwt.) pinned Benjamin McCollister in 1:08 of the first match, and Chris Rodrigues (125 pounds) followed by pinning Jordan Henning in 2:28. Jake Reynolds (165 pounds) pinned Brian Hocum in 4:51, while Austin Wall (197 pounds) wrapped up Carolina's victory by pinning Brandon Miller in 3:50.
Evan Sola (133 pounds) won a 16-0 technical fall over Joey Bricker in 4:56. Mike Booth (149 pounds) and James O'Connor (157 pounds) each won by major decisions, and Brad Byers (141 pounds) and Nick Richmond (184 pounds) decisioned their opponents.
Against the Spartans, UNC swept all 10 matches and cruised to a 35-0 victory.
The Tar Heels dominated the matches at 125, 165, 184 and 197. In the lone fall of the evening, Rodrigues (125 pounds), the reigning ACC Wrestler of the Week, pinned Tony Stewart at 3:35. Reynolds (165 pounds) jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first period and cruised to the 16-5 major decision victory. Dusty Heist defeated Matt Dunn, 7-0, at 184-pounds, and at 197-pounds, Wall defeated Ryan Midgett, 6-2.
Also earning decisions for UNC were, Byers (141 pounds), Andrew Slack (149 pounds), Kenny (Hwt.), Chris DiGuiseppe (157 pounds), John Paul Igoe (133 pounds) and Canty (174 pounds).
The Tar Heels next face two ACC rivals on the road. Carolina will wrestle at Virginia Feb.1 at 7 p.m. and travel to College Park, Md., Feb. 2 to face the Maryland Terrapins at 2 p.m.
