CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The 34th-ranked University of North Carolina men's tennis team encountered little trouble Monday afternoon as the Tar Heels dispatched visiting Campbell 7-0 in an indoor match at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Carolina swept all six singles matches in straight sets with freshman Geoff Boyd clinching the match at #4 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Zorick Tolstan. UNC freshman Daniel Pinchbeck continued his amazing play of late as he beat Steve Hoeltschi at #6 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Pinchbeck has now won 52 successive games in singles and doubles over the past three matches. After losing the first game of the first set of his singles match against Furman last Wednesday, he won 12 straight games in that match, eight games in doubles and 12 games in singles last Saturday against West Virginia and eight games in doubles and 12 games in singles against Campbell Monday.
Also continuing their great play are sophomore Andrew Metzler who won his 15th singles match of the 2001-02 season and junior Trystan Meniane who improved to 14-4 in singles with his win Monday.
The Tar Heels improved to 4-1 on the season with the victory while Campbell falls to 1-2. The Tar Heels are idle for 12 days before playing South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. on February 23 at 2:30 p.m.
