Brewer, Durham Honored At ACC Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of North Carolina sports information director emeritus Rick Brewer and Tar Heel play-by-play voice Woody Durham were honored at the ACC Tournament last weekend as recipients of the ACC's Marvin "Skeeter" Francis Award. Presented annually by the Atlantic Coast Sportswriters Association (ACSWA), the award is given in honor of Marvin "Skeeter" Franics, longtime sports information director at Wake Forest University and former service bureau director at the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Francis Award is presented to members of ACSWA who have provided exemplary service to the Atlantic Coast Conference.
rewer served with distinction for 30 years in the North Carolina Sports Information Office, including 25 years as the director. A 1971 Carolina graduate, he has been a fixture on the media services team at the Final Four and also worked as a press officer at the 1984 Olympics. He was inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America Hall of Fame in 1991 and won the Arch Ward Award, CoSIDA's highest honor for lifetime achievement in 1999.
Durham is in his 31st yeas as the Tar Heels' play by play announcer. He is a native of Mebane, N.C. and graduate from UNC in 1963. He assumed his duties with the Tar Heel Sports Network in 1971. He is the father of current Georgia Tech play by play man Wes Durham. The senior Durham has been named the N.C. Sportscaster of the Year 10 years in his career.
