UNC Currently Third In Sears Cup Standings

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The University of North Carolina athletic program now stands in third place in the 2001-02 Sears Directors' Cup standings. The first set of winter sports standings were released on Thursday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Carolina, which was second at the conclusion of the fall season, dropped one spot in the latest standings which added the sports of skiiing, rifle and men's and women's indoor track and field to the standings. Carolina now has 454.5 points and ranks behind defending champion Stanford (645.5 points) and Colorado (481 points). UNC added 78 points for finishing fifth in women's indoor track and 71.5 points for finishing 12th in men's indoor track.
The remainder of the Top 10 schools are BYU with 361.5, UCLA with 361, Florida with 348, Texas with 297.5, Arkansas with 289, Nebraska with 285 and Notre Dame with 282.5.
The second set of winter sports rankings will be released by NACDA on April 4.
