UNC Freshman Wins Two Titles At USA Junior Nationals

PALO ALTO, CALIF. - Laura Gerraughty, the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, won the hammer and shot put titles at the 2002 USA Track and Field Junior National Championships held yesterday and today at Stanford University.
The Nashua, N.H., native, who just completed her freshman year at the University of North Carolina, won the shot put today with a meet record toss of 57 feet, seven and three-quarter inches. The throw also topped her previous UNC record. Gerraughty beat UCLA's Briona Reynolds.
Friday, Gerraughty won the hammer with a throw of 192 feet, eight inches.
Gerraughty was second in the hammer, shot and discus at the ACC Championships earlier this spring.
y virtue of winning the USA Junior National crowns, Gerraughty has qualified for the World Junior Championships which be contested in Bermuda in July.
