Tar Heels Announce 2002-03 Men's Tennis Schedule

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina will play one of the toughest schedules in the country during the 2003 spring season as announced Tuesday by Tar Heel head men's tennis coach Sam Paul. entering his 10th year at the helm of the Carolina tennis program.
esides the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule, UNC will face national powers like Princeton, Georgia, Washington, Virginia Commonwealth, Auburn and South Carolina in dual match action. Carolina will also play in the Blue Grey Championship at Montgomery, Ala., a tournament which annually draws 16 of the top teams in the nation.
The Tar Heels play in eight fall tournaments. UNC will host the ITA Region II Championships October 23-27 and the Josephine Groot Collegiate Tournament November 1-3.
UNC will start the spring by playing in the National Collegiate Tennis Classic at Las Vegas, a tournament which includes national powers Stanford, USC, Pepperdine, Georgia and Duke.
The home dual match schedule features Princeton, Georgia, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Washington, Maryland, Auburn, Gardner-Webb, South Carolina, Florida State, Virginia and Duke.
Carolina enters the campaign as the defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion. The Tar Heels have earned NCAA Tournament berths in 10 of the last 11 seasons.
