The University of North Carolina Sports Medicine staff is charged with the responsibility for all matters that pertain to the health and welfare of the student athlete on the campus. It shall also be responsible for directing the total health needs of the intercollegiate student athlete.
The sports medicine staff assume primary responsibility for health care, injury prevention, conditioning, protective equipment, practice procedures, facility maintenance as pertains to safety, nutrition and chemical abuse education. In an effort to honor the requirements of patient-physician confidentiality, it is expected that sports medicine personnel will handle such requests in an appropriate manner.
The sports medicine division provides good quality health care with a primary emphasis on educating the student athlete in good health maintenance and injury care. Their philosophy is a commitment to patient care, education and community service and research.
We respect each individual, and believe each individual has a right to professional, comprehensive, and humane care which protects his/her dignity, privacy, shows respect for his/her lifestyle and allows the patient to make informed participative choices in their health care.
Sports medicine is an integral part of the health care team at Carolina whose staff provides a unique service essential to the quality health care of the athletic population at UNC.
