
Women's Tennis Dodges Northwestern 4-3

Evanston, Ill. - The University of North Carolina women's tennis team (4-0) remains undefeated after a 4-3 victory over 16th-ranked Northwestern University (4-3) Sunday afternoon at the Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill.
The No. 5 Tar Heels secured their first point of the match in doubles competition. The doubles team of Kate Pinchbeck and Kendrick Bunn, as well as the team of Marlene Mejia and Aniela Mojzis each overpowered their Northwestern competition 8-3. At No. 3 doubles, Northwestern's Jamie Peisel and Kristi Roemer defeated Kendall Cline and Lee Bairos 8-6.
In singles competition, the Tar Heels were upset at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. At the No.1 position, #16 Grier defeated #11 Pinchbeck 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2, #63 Rush defeated #38 Mejia 6-3, 6-1. Northwestern received their third and final point of the match at No. 4 singles, where #76 Peisel defeated Cline 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-1.
Carolina received points on victories from Bairos and Bunn, at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively. Bairos defeated Barnes 6-3, 7-5 and Bunn overpowered Stacy Kokx 6-4, 6-1. Sophomore Aniela Mojzis clinched the win for the Tar Heels in the deciding match at No. 3 singles. #61 Mojzis rallied from a first set loss to defeat Yung 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-2.
Carolina will now travel to Madison, Wis. to compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships from Thursday, Feb. 6 through Sunday, Feb. 9.
