No. 19 Carolina Men's Tennis Upsets No. 11 Auburn

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina (4-2) handed Auburn (6-1) its first loss of the season Sunday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels clinched the match with a final score of 5-1 thanks to a singles win from freshman Derek Porter, 4-0 for the spring season.
Carolina swept five of the singles matches. At No. 2 singles, 61st-ranked junior Nicholas Monroe downed Andrew Colombo 6-4, 6-4. UNC's Daniel Pinchbeck at No. 3 singles, Andy Metzler at No. 5 singles and Geoff Boyd at No. 6 singles also posted wins.
The Tar Heels fell to Auburn in two out of three doubles matches. Senior Trystan Meniane, ranked 17th nationally, and Greg Archer, faced Andrew Colombo and Rameez Junaid in the doubles competition. Colombo, an NCAA champion in doubles tennis, and Junaid who is ranked 10th in singles competition won the match 8-2.
The team has been facing health problems. "We were pretty beat up. This was a great win for us. I'm proud of my guys," said head coach Sam Paul. "We weren't sure until this morning that some of our players were even going to play."
"The team has been working really hard. I may have even overworked them, but we're looking forward to getting outside this week if weather permits," Paul said.
UNC plays against Gardner-Webb Friday at 3 p.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
