Carolina Whitewashes Wolfpack In Regular Season Finale

CARY, N.C. - No. 45 North Carolina closed out is regular season with a 7-0 win over NC State in men's tennis on Sunday afternoon. Coach Sam Paul's Tar Heels finished the regular season at 10-10 overall and 3-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Tar Heels and the Wolfpack will play again Thursday in the opening round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament at Millbrook Park in Raleigh. The Tar Heels are the No. 7 seed and the Wolfpack No. 8. The winners advances to the quarterfinals Friday versus No. 2 seed Clemson. Clemson won at home against the vistiting Tar Heels in the regular season 5-2.
After winning the doubles point, UNC claimed victory in all six singles encounters. All were clinched in straight sets. Senior Trystan Meniane improved to 6-2 in ACC dual matches and 22-10 overall by winning at No. 1 singles over R.J. Murray of the Wolfpack 6-2, 6-4. Junior Andrew Metzler won his fifth ACC dual match in a row for Carolina and bettered his overall mark to 23-15 with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Val Banada.
Senior Greg Archer subbed in for Nicholas Monroe in the lineup and got a win in his final regular season match by a 6-0, 6-1 score over Chris Mills at No. 6 singles.
Other Tar Heel winners were sophomore Daniel Pinchbeck at No. 3 singles, freshman Derek Porter at No. 4 singles and sophomore Geoff Boyd at No. 5 singles.
