Tar Heel Triumvirate Tapped For Tennis All-ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Three North Carolina players have been named to the 18 member 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis All-Conference Team, as selected by a vote of the league's nine head coaches. The Tar Heel nominees include senior Trystan Meniane (Martinique, France), junior Nicholas Monroe (Olathe, Kan.) and freshman Derek Porter (Coral Springs, Fla.).
Monroe won the ACC flight No. 2 title in singles and Porter won at flight No. 4. Meniane is ranked No. 31 nationally and is 9-8 this year against nationally-ranked opponents. Monroe made All-ACC for the second straight year and is ranked No. 86 in singles. Meniane and Monroe are also ranked No. 25 nationally in doubles.
Among the honorees are five players from Duke, four players from Clemson, three from North Carolina, two from Georgia Tech and Wake Forest and one each from Florida State and Virginia.
For the first time in Florida State's 12-year history in the ACC, a Seminole has garnered ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Year honors. Mat Cloer finished the ACC regular-season with a 6-1 league mark for the Noles.
Doug Stewart, a native of Malibu, Calif., was named this year's ACC Rookie of the Year, after compiling a 6-2 record in conference play at No. 1 singles for the Virginia Cavaliers. He also compiled a 21-3 dual meet record and stands at No. 41 in the latest ITA rankings.
