Tar Heels Drop Two To No. 4 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. - The North Carolina softball team dropped a pair of games to No. 4 Oklahoma Saturday, falling 10-0 and 4-2 at the OU/Nike Classic at OU Softball Complex. With the losses, UNC is 5-5 on the season, while Oklahoma improves to 11-1-1.
OU/Nike Classic action continues on Sunday when the Tar Heels face Louisville (7-4) for a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. A doubleheader between Oklahoma and Sam Houston State will follow.
The first game went just five innings before being ended by the run rule because the Sooners led by more than eight. After two scoreless innings, the home team put together eight runs in the bottom of the third on five hits, including a two-run home run by Heather Scaglione and a grand slam by April Valdez The Sooners added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on their third home run of the game, this one by Jamie Fox.
UNC had two hits in the game, doubles by sophomore Julia Bove and junior Jessica Young. Sophomore pitcher Crystal Cox threw two and two-thirds innings to take the loss and fall to 3-3 on the season. Junior Ashley Allen threw one and a third innings in relief.
In the second game, with UNC playing as the home team, the Tar Heels went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Young singled and was replace by pinch runner Marissa May. Senior Emily Price then reached on an error that put May on third. Senior Jessica Graziano singled to right to bring May home and sophomore Michelle Hoffmann singled to bring Price around.
The Tar Heels finished the game with six hits, but couldn't come up with any more runs. Oklahoma scored two in the top of the third, one in the fifth and one in the sixth and finished with nine hits. The teams had three errors each. Sophomore Alison Yin (2-2) took the loss for UNC.
