The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill women's tennis team pushed its winning streak to three consecutive matches after defeating Virginia 4-3 on Saturday at the Snyder Tennis Center. The twelth-ranked Tar Heels move to 16-6 overall and 2-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The 65th-ranked Cavaliers fall to 9-9 on the season, 0-4 in the ACC. In doubles action, Carolina took the doubles point after winning all three seeds.
At the No. 1 seed, the junior duo, Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline, ranked 23rd in the national doubles poll, beat Virginia's Mariko Fritz-Krockow and Kristen James 8-4. Mojzis and Cline are now 14-5 in dual match play.
The senior pair, Kendrick Bunn and Lee Bairos defeated Dora Bechliwanis and Marta Bechliwanis 8-3 at the No. 2 doubles spot. Bunn and Bairos remain undefeated in doubles play, having won all four doubles matches they have competed in as a team.
The freshman tandem, Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long, capped off the Tar Heels success in doubles play with their win over the Cavalier's Shannon Stough and Caroline Hammond, 8-3. Anundsen and Long move to 8-2 overall in dual match play.
In singles action, the Tar Heels didn't have the same success that they had in doubles play, but the team was able to rally behind three key wins to beat the Cavaliers.
