Monroe's Run Ends In NCAA Quarterfinals

TULSA. OKLA. - The brilliant career of North Carolina men's tennis player Nick Monroe came to a close Saturday as the Tar Heel senior from Olathe, Kan. fell in the singles quarterfinals of the 2004 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships to Franticek Bajet of South Alabama in straight sets at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
ajet, ranked 33rd nationally in singles, defeated the 29th-ranked Monroe 6-2, 6-4. Bajet will play Tulane's Michael Kogan in one of two semifinal matches Sunday while Auburn's Gabor Zoltan Pelva meets Baylor's Benjamin Becker in the other.
Monroe concluded his Tar Heel career with an overall singles record of 100-44. The 100 wins are the second most in UNC history. Only David Caldwell with 116 wins from 1993-96 won more singles matches in his career than Monroe.
