UNC Women's Tennis Opens With Wins Over Davidson, UNC Greensboro

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - In its first play of the 2005 regular season, the 15th-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team hosted a double-header Saturday and came away with wins over two in-state foes. The Tar Heels defeated Davidson 6-1 and swept UNC Greensboro 7-0 to move to 2-0 on the season.
Led by seniors Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline, the Tar Heels took all six doubles matches and won 11 of 12 singles matches in straight sets. The tandem, ranked 14th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association doubles polls, defeated Davidson's Patterson/Linville 8-3 to move to 11-1 this season.
Mojzis, ranked 26th in the ITA singles polls, cruised in both of her straight-set victories at the No. 1 seed, pushing her record to 11-4. Playing at the No. 2 seed, #37 Cline added two more victories to her singles record, pushing it to 16-2 this season.
Freshmen Charlotte Tansill and Alexandra Jurewitz earned their first ever dual match wins as Tar Heels. Tansill played at the No. 5 sinlges seed in both matches, while Jurewitz played at No. 6.
The Tar Heels are back in action at home on Saturday, Jan. 22 in another double-header. North Carolina will face SEC rival Tennessee at 1 p.m. and Elon at 7 p.m. Both matches will be played at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
