Novice Rowers Get Experience In First Competition

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina novice rowing team saw its first action of the season on Saturday, racing against Duke at Lake Michie in Bahama, N.C. Four Tar Heel boats - two eights and two fours - competed in the scrimmage.
Officlal times were lost due to an on-the-water mishap, but UNC's first novice eight beat Duke's first novice eight in the only head-to-head racing of the day.
UNC's lineups were:
First novice eight:
Melinda Bowman (coxswain), Chelsea Barth, Mary Ford, Eugenia Delbono, Mary Sasson, Jenny Burrus, Layne Johnson, Emily Williams and Lisette Yorke
Second novice eight:
Shannon Wilson (coxswain), Chandler Sours, Rebecca Aubry, Eleanor Saunders, Molly McDonough, Autumn Carroll, Heather Wensil, Claire Davis and Katie Wood
First novice four:
Sara Uribe (coxswain), Alex Bandy, Jackie Trail, Kathryn Winz and Ashley Clark
Second novice four:
Emma Garcia (coxswain), Sheena Hill, Kristin Hill, Danielle Peacock and Lenise Willis
The Tar Heels' next race is this weekend, when the entire squad will compete at the Head of the Chattahoochee Regatta on Saturday and Sunday in Gainesville, Ga.
