UNC Doubles Team Sees Run End In ITA Nationals Semifinals

COLUMBUS, OHIO - North Carolina's Raian Luchici and Brad Pomeroy, seeded No. 3, saw their hopes for a spot in the championship finals of the 2005 ITA National Indoor Championships come to an end Saturday morning as the talented Tar Heel duo fell to the defending champions in the event.
Ohio State's Scott Green and Ross Wilson, playing on their home court and before a home crowd in Columbus, Ohio, defeated Luchici and Pomeroy 8-5. Green and Wilson were seeded No. 2 in the tournament and the Buckeye tandem also entered the ITA Indoor Nationals as the defending champion in the event.
The Ohio State doubles team will advance to the championship encounter where they will face Andreas Silijestrom and Marco Born of Middle Tennessee Sunday. Silijestrom and Born are the tournament's No. 1 and on October 9 they defeated Luchici and Pomeroy in the championship match of the 2005 Ralph Lauren Polo All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
The match was the final day of competition in the fall semester for North Carolina's men's tennis team. Coach Sam Paul's UNC team will now turn its focus to the beginning of the dual match season which comes on January 21, 2006 when UNC hosts a day with two dual matches against Campbell at 10 a.m. and Elon at 4 p.m.
