No. 13 UNC Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 To No. 8 Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. - The eighth-ranked Georgia Tech women's tennis team edged No. 13 North Carolina 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in the Tar Heels' final match of the 2005 regular season.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets (16-3, 9-1) finished the season as the co-champions of the Atlantic Coast Conference and will enter next week's ACC tournament as the No. 1 seed. Miami shares the co-champion title. Carolina (19-8, 7-3) will most likely be a fourth seed in the tournament, which begins Thursday in Cary, N.C.
Junior Kelly Anderson clinched the match for the Yellow Jackets with a three-set victory at No. 3 singles.
The doubles team of Dasha Potapova and Lyndsay Shosho won the clinching doubles match by coming back from a 5-1 deficit to defeat UNC's 24th-ranked duo of Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long, 8-6, at the No. 2 position.
Georgia Tech won at No. 3 doubles for the first victory of the day, as the Yellow Jacket duo of Kelly Anderson and Whitney McCray took an 8-1 victory over the Tar Heels' Caitlin Collins and Tanja Markovic.
At No. 1, North Carolina's 6th-ranked Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis then defeated Tech's 15th-ranked Kristi Miller and Alison Silverio, 8-5. The tandem finish the ACC regular season with a 7-3 record.
In singles play, Shosho gave Georgia Tech a 2-0 edge in the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Collins at No. 5 singles, and 14th-ranked Kristi Miller pushed the Jackets to a 3-0 lead with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over No. 31 Mojzis at the No. 1 position.
Markovic earned the first point of the match for the Tar Heels with a 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 win over McCray at No. 6 singles. It came down to No. 3, where Tech's Anderson clinced the match for the Yellow Jackets with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Silverio gave Tech its fifth point of the match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Anundsen in the No. 4 singles slot.
The Tar Heels return to action Thursday, April 21, when they travel to the Cary Tennis Center for the start of the ACC tournament. The official bracket for the tournament with all dates and times will be released by the conference office Monday.
