The temperatures were hot, but they could not match the outstanding team performance exhibited by the foursome of 2005 Mini-Tour newcomer Monica Steed, Charlie Reed, Michael Mumford and David House at Forest Oaks Country Club on July 25th.
Steed has played well in her three tournaments, and Reed's game continues to shine as he heads to Pebble Beach for a late summer visit. The team score of 59, executed over the challenging layout that has been redone by the Davis Love III design group, won by two shots over the threesome of tour veterans Sid Champion, Charles Underwood, and Michael Beale. Third place was a 64 shot by Preston Triplett, Monty Hedricks, Eric Ferris and J.R. Brown.
Robin Searight took the ladies long drive prize, while Champion secured a proximity winner on the par three fourth. The men's long drive prize went to well rested chinook diver Steve Enriquez Hicks. Hicks' team was in contention for a team prize until an extremely rare double bogey on their fifteenth hole.
Mark Jones overcame an aching ankle to join the exclusive group of qualifiers for the Tiger Woods timepiece, provided by Carlyle and Company, by winning the proximity prize on the very difficult eighth hole. Jim Williams took the prize on the twelfth hole and Mike Harris won at the seventeenth.
The Skakle brothers, Andy, Cliff and Eddie joined John Erck to win the Super Team competition with a brilliant 59. Finishing second with 61 was the Carlyle and Co. sponsored team of Russ and Carl Cohen, Jeff Burcham and Sam Johnston.
