Tar Heels Shine in National Softball Tournament

Senior Crystal Cox and juniors Erin Dudley and Theresa Nicholas helped lead the Virginia Legends to a runner-up finish at the recently held 23U ASA Class A National Championships in California. The squad, made up mostly of college players from the East, fell to the California Sliders in the finals. Cox and Dudley were each named to the All-America first team for their efforts.
Both Cox and Dudley had a big part in a 4-2 win over the Sliders in winners bracket play. Cox pitched a nine-inning complete game and Dudley knocked in the game-winning runs with a two-run double in the ninth. Dudley just missed winning the batting title for the tournament, finishing with an average of almost .500.
